This is a first ear lobe piercing wearing a single small crystal stud, photographed minutes after it was done with the skin only faintly pink. The stud is centred on the fleshy part of the lobe, low enough to sit clear of the cartilage and high enough to leave room for a hoop or a second piercing later. Placement for a first lobe piercing
A first lobe piercing looks simple, but placement decides how the ear will look for years. The stud here sits in the centre of the lobe, on the line the ear naturally follows from the helix down, so that a second piercing above it or a hoop through it will sit correctly later. Too low and a stud drags towards the edge as the lobe softens with age; too high and it crowds the cartilage. The jewellery is a small round crystal in a plain setting, which is the right size for a fresh piercing: light, flat-backed and easy to keep clean. Both ears are checked in the mirror before piercing so the pair match.

For lobes you can choose between a single-use sterile needle and our professional piercing system, which uses sealed sterile single-use cartridges and is quick and precise for soft tissue; we explain both and pierce with whichever you prefer. The spot is marked with you looking in the mirror, and for a pair we mark both ears and compare them before anything is pierced. Gloves and jewellery are opened fresh in front of you and the station is sterilised between clients. The starter stud is hypoallergenic, implant-grade metal with a secure back, sized to allow for a little swelling. The appointment at our Ahmedabad studio takes only a few minutes, and children and nervous first-timers are welcome.
Healing a first lobe piercing
Lobes are the easiest piercing to heal, typically settling in six to eight weeks. Clean twice a day with sterile saline, dry gently with a clean tissue and otherwise leave it alone: no twisting, no turning and no swapping the stud early. Sleep on the other side for the first week, keep hair products, perfume and phone screens away from it and be careful with towels and clothing that can catch the stud. Slight tenderness and a little crust around the post in the first days are normal. After six to eight weeks, if the lobe is calm, you can change to any earring you like, and it is ready for a second piercing above it whenever you want one.

Very little. The lobe is soft tissue with no cartilage, so it feels like a quick, firm pinch that is over in a second, followed by mild warmth for a few hours. It is the least painful piercing on the body, which is why it is the usual first piercing for children and adults alike. Most people are surprised by how quick it is.
How long does a lobe piercing take to heal?
Usually six to eight weeks. Keep the starter stud in for the whole period, clean twice a day with sterile saline and avoid sleeping on it. Do not change the earring early, even if it looks healed on the outside. If the lobe is still sore, red or weeping after eight weeks, keep the stud in and send us a message for advice.
Needle or gun for a first lobe piercing?
Both are available for lobes at the studio. A needle makes a very clean channel; our professional piercing system uses sealed sterile cartridges and is fast, which many first-timers and parents prefer. We will explain the difference at your visit and use whichever you are more comfortable with. Either way the jewellery is single-use, sterile and hypoallergenic.
Can I get both ears pierced in one visit?
Yes, a pair is the normal first lobe appointment. We mark both ears, check them side by side in the mirror and pierce one after the other, so the whole visit takes only a few minutes. Healing a pair is no harder than healing one, apart from needing to sleep on your back for the first week or so rather than on either side.
