A curated ear is a set of piercings planned as one composition rather than added one at a time. The first photo shows a full project: a gold crown cluster on the forward helix, a tragus stud, small helix studs and a column of four graduated crystal studs down the lobe. The second and third show a matched pair of ears with a crystal cluster on the upper cartilage, a small tragus ring on one side and graduated lobe studs. All were planned and pierced at Black Poison Tattoo Studio in Ahmedabad.
How the pieces are placed and combined
The full curated ear in the first photo works from top to bottom. The crown cluster sits on the forward helix, the fold of cartilage nearest the face, and acts as the focal point. Small gold studs run along the helix rim, a stud sits in the tragus, and the lobe carries four crystal studs that step down in size so the eye follows a line to the bottom. On the matched pair, the cluster sits higher on the upper cartilage near the rook, one tragus wears a tiny ring, and the lobes are kept simple with three graduated studs on one ear and a single round crystal on the other, so the two ears echo each other without being identical.

Planning and piercing a curated ear at the studio
A curated ear starts with a plan. We look at the shape of your ear, mark every intended piercing in the mirror with you, and decide together which ones to do now and which to add later, since not every ear has a rook or forward helix fold suited to piercing. Every cartilage piercing is done with a single-use sterile needle, marked to the anatomy so the jewellery sits flat, and the setup is fully sterilised between clients. We fit implant-grade titanium flat-back labrets to start, in plain ends or small decorative pieces, and reserve the larger clusters and rings for once each piercing has healed. Our piercers in Ahmedabad will be honest if a placement does not suit your ear.

Healing several piercings on one ear
This is where a curated ear needs patience. Lobe piercings typically heal in six to eight weeks, but cartilage placements such as the forward helix, rook, tragus and helix take six to twelve months and often longer, and several fresh piercings on the same ear heal more slowly still because it is hard to keep pressure off all of them. Clean each one twice daily with sterile saline, never twist the jewellery, sleep on the other side and keep hair, phones and headphones away. Do not change any piece early. Doing the project in two or three visits, starting with the cartilage, usually gives a better result than everything in one session.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a curated ear hurt?
Each piercing is a brief sharp pinch, with cartilage placements such as the forward helix, rook and tragus feeling firmer than the lobe. The discomfort of doing several in one session is more about the ear feeling warm and tender afterwards than the piercing itself. We take breaks between placements and can split the plan over more than one visit.
How long does a full curated ear take to heal?
The lobes settle in six to eight weeks, but the cartilage pieces take six to twelve months and often longer, and multiple fresh piercings on one ear slow each other down. Expect the whole ear to be fully settled and ready for jewellery changes after around a year. Consistent saline cleaning and not sleeping on that side make the biggest difference.
Can I get all of these piercings in one session?
Several can be done together, but we usually recommend spreading a full curated ear across two or three visits. Piercing the cartilage placements first and adding the lobe stack later, or the other way round, gives each set a chance to heal without competing for a pillow-free side. We will suggest a sequence that fits your plan and your sleep.
How is a curated ear priced?
Pricing depends on how many piercings you have, which placements they are and the jewellery you choose, from plain titanium ends to crystal clusters and gold pieces. We quote per piercing and per piece of jewellery after planning the layout with you, so you know the total before anything is pierced. Send us a photo of your ear and your ideas to get started.
