Healing a second lobe next to an existing one
A second lobe heals like a first, typically in six to eight weeks, but it is slightly higher on the lobe where the tissue is a little firmer, so it can be a touch more tender for the first few days. Clean it twice daily with sterile saline, do not twist the stud, and leave the neighbouring earring in place but keep it clean too, since the two sit close together. Sleep on the other side for the first week and keep hair, headphones and phone screens away. If you have had a helix pierced at the same time, as in the second photo, remember that the cartilage will take six to twelve months, long after the lobe has settled.

Slightly, for some people, because the upper part of the lobe is a little firmer than the centre. It is still soft tissue rather than cartilage, so it is a quick pinch that is over in a second. Most clients say it feels almost identical to their first lobe piercing, with a day or two of mild tenderness afterwards.
How long does a second lobe piercing take to heal?
Usually six to eight weeks, the same as a first lobe. Keep the starter stud in for the whole period, clean twice a day with sterile saline and avoid sleeping on it. Because the two piercings are close together, keep the first earring clean as well. Only switch to a different stud or a hoop once the new piercing is fully settled.
Can I get a second lobe and a helix in the same visit?
Yes, and the wearer in the second photo did exactly that. Just be aware the two heal on very different timelines: the lobe in weeks, the helix in months. Having both fresh on one ear means being strict about sleeping on the other side. We can also split them over two visits if you prefer an easier healing period.
What studs work best for stacking on the lobe?
Small, flat-backed ends in different shapes work best: a heart, a moon, a star, a cross or a small coloured stone, with a plain crystal or a huggie hoop at the bottom to anchor the stack.
